"Bye"

"Bye", painted by Darlene Graeser from Unconscious on Canvas in May 2013 depicts an intriguing moment in a woman's life. Where is she going? Why is she going?  What is she leaving behind and what is she thinking?  Her eyes depict complex emotions, the rain drops on the car window underscore the sadness. It is one of the most commented upon images in the collection.

Fascinator

by the FABULOUS Darlene Graeser 2017

"I've been pondering lately all of the ways we distance ourselves from others. Usually it is more subtle than depicted in my painting, but I loved the image of such a bold rebuff that is nevertheless oddly fascinating for the man while still quite ambivalent for the woman. "If you can tolerate the stink, then maybe I'll give you a glance".

Art,

In Trina Paulus's book "Hope for the Flowers"  one of the main characters, a caterpillar named Yellow, finds another caterpillar spinning its silken cocoon and beginning the journey to become a butterfly. Yellow, knowing there is something more, but full of fear, asks how she becomes a butterfly.

"You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar."

Well, it seemed like four months...

Had dinner with new friends and learned all those glossy details you learn about one another's lives. The husband says it was about four months after same-sex marriage was legalized that they finally married. His husband stops him and says,"No. It was legalized on June 28 and we got married on July X." I'm sure it seemed like four months...

Scan the bitch

It was magical seeing this creation come to life last week. She started out blue, like a giant libido pill, and transformed into this vibrant green piece of arm candy. The crowning touch in objectifying her was the bar code as piece title.

What does it say to you?

Bye....

Just wanted to say "bye"....I've been Darlene's assistant for many years and have been posting on this blog for awhile.  I am handing the task over to her new assistant, Nora as I become a full time high school math teacher.  I can't wait to see how Nora will build on this infrastructure and increase the fans of Unconscious On Canvas.  I will miss Darlene and this job a lot! :-(  She's an amazing artist, fantastic psychologist, and wonderful friend....
